Lesson plans for The Impact of Civil War and Conflict on Identity

Comparison Essay (Quiz Grade) Explain the differences and similarities between the conflicts and roots of civil strife in at least 2 of the countries studied during the unit on Nationalism.  Be sure to analyze how the characters or historical figures are involved in the conflict.  Examine the various factions, outside influences, the type of conflict, any important details, and the results of the conflicts as discussed in class.  Use specific quotes from the articles to illustrate and strengthen your comparison.

Grading rubric

6 - Essay shows 3 or more well-described comparisons or contrasts, all aspects of question are addressed, content is correct, quotes from articles are used to strengthen comparison, essay is organized and flowing, editing and proofreading are evident, rough draft and chart were handed in.

5 - Essay shows at least 3 well-described comparisons or contrasts, all aspects of question were addressed, content is correct, quotes from articles may not have been used, essay is organized, editing and proofreading are apparent, rough draft or chart were handed in.

4 - Essay shows less than 3 comparisons or contrasts, most aspects of the question were addressed, content may have few errors, some use of articles is evident, essay is organized, some errors in grammar or spelling, rough draft or chart were handed in.

3 - Essay shows at least 1 strong comparison or contrast, some aspects of the question were not addressed, content is sparse, some use of articles, essay is somewhat organized, some errors in grammar or spelling, rough draft or chart were not handed in.

2 - ESSAY SHOWS A COMPARISON OR CONTRAST, MANY ASPECTS OF THE QUESTION WERE NOT ADDRESSED, CONTENT IS CONFUSED, ARTICLES DO NOT APPEAR TO BE USED, ORGANIZATION AND EDITING ARE WEAK, NO ROUGH DRAFT OR FEW CHANGES IN FINAL DRAFT
