Lesson plans for: The Impact of Civil War and Conflict on Identity

  1. Using the Ethnic Maps of Lebanon, Nigeria, and Vietnam, explain your impressions of their diversity.

  2. Compare and Contrast these maps to a political map of the United States of America.  What are the similarities and differences?

  3. Using the Lebanese Religion map, describe the reasons for the Maronite attitude toward the Palestinians.

  4. Using the series of Nigeria maps, explain how the Ogoni people were geographically isolated in their struggle against Shell.

  5. Using the Ethno-Linguistic map of Vietnam, explain how the Geneva Convention of 1954’s decision to divide the country failed to resolve the conflict.
