Religions of the World Poster

The class will be split into nine different groups. Each group will be assigned a religion on which to make a poster describing the different aspects of a particular religion.

Religions to be assigned include:

  • Buddhism
  • Christianity
  • Confucianism
  • Hinduism
  • Islam
  • Judaism
  • Shinto
  • Sikhism
  • Taoism

Once assigned you will have a set amount of in class research time and a set amount of in class poster construction time. If there is any additional work that you need to do, you must do so outside the given class time.

The following list is necessary information that should be included in your poster. You are not limited to only the information on this list. Some of these religions have very rich histories and complex beliefs systems and rituals. Provide as much detailed information as you possibly can.

Information to be included:

  • Origins of the religion
    • Founder
    • Place
    • Era
  • How did the religion gain its following?
    • When?
    • Where did it spread to?
  • Basic fundamentals of the religion
    • Teachings
    • Holy writings
    • Key beliefs
    • Rituals
  • Pictures or other visual aides which enhance the provided information

Once the poster is complete, each group is to give a 5-10 minute oral presentation providing information about their assigned religion, as well as an explanation of any visual aides which appear on the poster.

Your grade on this assignment will be a combination of research information, appearance of poster, as well as oral presentation.
