Student Handout and Information
Submitted by Steven Beatty, Bridgewater-Raritan High School

As we have seen, religion can be a very powerful force in the lives of its followers. Throughout history, religions have developed in different parts of the world and have influenced their followers' lifestyles and actions in unparalleled ways. Providing answers to the questions people faced, giving structure and order to burgeoning Nations, and unifying peoples with one belief. Religion has also had tremendous influence in the development of its followers: their daily actions, beliefs and economic well-being, types of governments and rulers, and images of the "higher purpose of life." However, many wars and conflicts have been fought, and countless numbers killed in the name of God. Whatever effect and impact individual religions have had in history, the aggregate of the beliefs and actions they have led to have had tremendous influence on the world and its people. In this project, we will be analyzing the "major" religions of the world and breaking them down into their components. Each group will research information according to the criteria listed below and present it in our "religion fair".

  • In general, the presentation should be about ten minutes in length, with the handouts and placard providing the written information to the class. (Food is extra credit)
  • Each group member should take part in the presentation.
  • The conclusion of your presentation must explain the effect/impact that this religion and its beliefs have had on its followers past, present, and future by citing specific examples from the sources you have found, and current events.
