Objective(s): Students will be able to:

  1. Choose appropriate clothing for different weather conditions.
  2. Tell their friends whether they are going to school or to a birthday party.
  3. Describe the clothes they are wearing to school or to the birthday party.
  4. Have a telephone conversation discussing their daily plans and what they are wearing.

Vocabulary/Structures:

  1. Hot, cold, sunny, cloudy.
  2. It is hot.
  3. It is cold.
  4. It is sunny.
  5. It is cloudy.
  6. Where are you going?
  7. What are you wearing?
  8. What are you going to wear?
  9. I am going to school.
  10. I am going to the birthday party

  13. Pants shirt, dress, skirt, T-shirt, shorts, socks, shoes, hat, jacket, and coat.

Procedures:

  1. Play a song about the weather, for example, ¿Que tiempo hace hoy? Or Quel temps fait-il?
  2. Recycle today's day, date, and weather from previous lesson.
  3. Teacher shows students an authentic calendar from the target culture, with pictures of a school or a birthday cake on selected dates.
  4. Teacher points and says today's date on calendar (picture of school) then tells students that tomorrow will be a birthday party (picture of a birthday cake).
  5. Students look at calendar and respond chorally.
  6. Teach uses froggy doll from book called Froggy Gets Dressed.
  7. Teacher tells students to ask froggy,"Where are you going?" Froggy answers,"I am going to school." Teacher involves students as she selects and identifies different clothes for froggy to wear to school. (Colors can be included; this is optional and depends on grade level).
  8. Teacher models how to describe the clothes that froggy is wearing to school.
  9. Teacher models a telephone conversation with froggy using the toy cell phones. Conversation includes structures from the previous 2-3 lessons: greetings, weather, days and dates, and clothing.
  10. Teacher says,"Hello, how are you? Where are you going today?" Froggy responds and tells the teacher he is going to school or to birthday party. Teacher asks froggy,"What the weather is like?" Froggy describes the weather. Teacher asks froggy what clothes he is going to wear to school/party. Froggy responds, "I am going to wear ___ and ___."
  11. Students work in pairs in order to prepare a telephone conversation discussing their daily plans and what they are wearing.
  12. Group volunteers perform for classmates.

Materials:

  1. Students sing weather song.
  2. ¿Que tiempo hace hoy? song from Sing, Dance, Laugh, and Eat Taco 2 by Barbara MacArthur· Quel temps fait-il?
  3. CD player or cassette player
  4. An authentic calendar from the target culture.
  5. Toy cell phones. (Dollar store has them $1.00 ea.)
  6. Small and large pictures of a school and a birthday cake.
  7. Froggy Gets Dressed by Jonathon London - from Lakeshore Learning Co. or a doll with doll clothes.
  8. Pocket chart or poster with the following cloze sentences:
    What are you wearing?
    What are you going to wear?
    Where are you going?
    I am wearing ___.
    I am going to wear____.
    I am going to school.
    I am going to a birthday party.

Assessment: On-going informal assessment.

Evaluation: 85% accuracy on assessment.
