THEME: Peaceful Conflict Resolution
LESSON: 2
OBJECTIVE(S) - The learners will be able to:
1. Recognize aggressive, passive, and assertive behaviors
2. State, "He/She is aggressive, passive, assertive."
3. State, "He/She is a bully, a victim, a friend."
4. State, "He/She is arrogant, sad, angry, confident, helpful."
MATERIALS:
1. Any two puppets
2. Computers and Internet access
WARM-UP:
1. Teacher reviews feelings. Using puppets, teacher dramatizes various
emotions. Students identify feelings like: sad, angry, arrogant,
confident, and helpful.
ACTIVITIES:
1. Teacher explains and/or discusses the nature "conflict".
Conflicts happen between friends, family and acquaintances. Sometimes
someone hurts someone else's feelings and other times one hurts
someone else's feelings. There are different ways to handle conflict.
Aggressiveness, passivity, and assertiveness characterize three
different types of behavior in a conflict situation.
2. Teacher directs the students to the "Behaviors
in Conflict Resolution" web page. This page presents the
three behaviors in a conflict situation: aggressive, passive, and
assertive behaviors. Teacher and students discuss and describe the
three behaviors.
4. Students work in groups to plan a brief role-play portraying
the different behaviors.
CLOSURE:
1. Volunteers act out the various behaviors and the rest of the
class tries to guess whether volunteer is the bully, victim, or
assertive child.
2. Students identify the three behavior types in various conflicts.
ASSESSMENT:
1. Teacher observation and perceptions of classroom interaction
and students participation will be the basis of evaluation for the
accuracy of pronunciation and correct use of sentence structures.
