THEME: Peaceful Conflict Resolution
LESSON: 7
OBJECTIVE(S) - The learners will be able to:
1. Ask and answer, "What is the bully feeling?"
2. Ask and answer, "What is the victim feeling?"
3. Ask and answer, "What is the assertive child feeling?"
4. Ask and answer, "What is the problem?"
5. Ask and answer, "What is the solution?"
MATERIALS:
1. Puppets
2. Computers and Internet access
WARM-UP:
1. Teacher uses puppets to dramatize feelings. Review feelings and
behavior types in a conflict situation.
ACTIVITIES:
1. Teacher explains that students will view two video clips portraying
conflicts. These two will be the topics of discussion during the
teleconferencing.
2. Teacher explains that for the FIRST teleconference, students
will be discussing the problems that a New
Kid has when trying to join in with others.
In Canada and Mexico, students will ask questions about the "Conflict"
video. They will speak in English. These questions are:
- "What is the problem?"
- "How does the bully feel?"
- "How does the victim feel?"
3. Teacher explains that American students will answer the questions
in English.
4. Teacher explains that Canadian and Mexican students will then
ask questions in English about the solution. There is no video clip
for the solution because the students will create their own solution.
These are:
- "How does the assertive child feel?"
- "What is the solution to the problem?"
- "How does the assertive child feel?"
5. Teacher explains that American students will answer the questions
in English.
6. Teacher explains that for the SECOND teleconference, students
will be discussing Cafeteria Woes.
One student decides to trip a second student who is carrying his
lunch.
In the USA, students will ask questions about the "Conflict"
video. Those students who will be communicating with the Mexicans
will speak in Spanish. Those students who will be communicating
with the Canadians will speak in French. These questions are:
- "What is the problem?"
- "How does the bully feel?"
- "How does the victim feel?"
7. Teacher explains that Canadian and Mexican students will answer
the questions in French/Spanish.
8. Teacher explains that American students will then ask questions
in French/Spanish about the solution. There is no video clip for
the solution because the students will create their own solution.
These questions are:
- "What is the solution to the problem?"
- "How does the assertive child feel?
9. Teacher explains that Canadian and Mexican students will answer
the questions in French/Spanish.
10. Students view one video clip at a time. After viewing each
one, students can practice asking and answering questions. This
will be a mock-videoconference within the confines of the classroom.
It will give students the understanding of what they are expected
to say.
11. Students work in pairs asking each other the key questions
and creating their answers.
CLOSURE:
1. Volunteers state a question and answer interview for two video-clips.
ASSESSMENT:
1. Teacher observation and perceptions of classroom interaction
and students participation will be the basis of evaluation for the
accuracy of pronunciation and correct use of sentence structures.
