THEME: Peaceful Conflict Resolution
LESSON: 8
OBJECTIVE(S) - The learners will be able to:
1. Discuss conflicts in a video clip
2. Identify the bully, the victim, and the problem
3. Ask, “What would an assertive child do?
4. Discuss a peaceful resolution to the conflict
MATERIALS:
1. Computers and Internet access
2. PC Camera
3. PC Microphone
4. Netmeeting Software
WARM-UP:
1. Students view the New Kid video clip
portraying a conflict scenario showing two girls playing together
and ignoring a third one. Review feelings and behavior types in
this conflict scenario.
2. Students discuss what could be different solutions.
ACTIVITIES:
1. Teacher explains that this conflict scenario and possible solutions
will be the focus of their discussion during their teleconference.
2. Teacher explains that for this teleconference, students in Canada
and Mexico will ask questions in English about the "Conflict"
video. These questions are:
- "What is the problem?"
- "How does the bully feel?"
- "How does the victim feel?"
3. Teacher explains that American students will answer the questions
in English.
4.. Teacher explains that Canadian and Mexican students will then
ask questions in English about the solution. These questions are:
- "What is the solution to the problem?"
- "How does the assertive children feel?
5. Teacher explains that American students will answer the questions
in English.
CLOSURE:
1. Students perform a question and answer interview of the video-clip
during a videoconference with Canada/USA & Mexico/USA.
ASSESSMENT:
1. Teacher observation and perceptions of classroom interaction
and students participation will be the basis of evaluation for the
accuracy of pronunciation and correct use of sentence structures.
2. Teacher can also use and/or adapt the rubric included here.
